CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) unveiled an exciting plan to ensure players, fans and the broader public enjoy the traditional New Year fixture at Sahara Park Newlands.
The Festival of Cricket is an exciting three-day event which will see all the current Proteas and Franchise players participating in a New Year cricket extravaganza.
TWO of South Africa¹s favourite sporting teams, the Springboks and the Proteas, will face off in a T20 match that will headline Day One of the Festival of Cricket taking place at Sahara Park Newlands on 3rd, 4th and 5th January 2014.
The festival will showcase two highly competitive days of T20 cricket, firstly with a State of Origin match between North and South which takes place on Saturday, 4 January. The North will comprise players who first made their mark at the inland franchises and the South those from the coastal franchises. This will be followed by a first for domestic cricket the following day, when the RAM SLAM T20 Challenge is launched with a triple header.
These matches will feature and involve all our current Proteas team, which was recently crowned South African Team of the Year at the SA Sports Awards.
The iconic Sahara Park Newlands, voted the 2nd best stadium in the world last season, will play host to this magnificent event.
Cricket will not be the only attraction at this event. In keeping with the carnival atmosphere in the Mother City at this time of year, CSA has lined up a host of top quality local artists to entertain those fans who will be lucky enough to get tickets. There will also be coaching clinics, signing sessions for fans, plus food, drinks and other stalls to make sure the traditional visit to Newlands will be fun filled and exciting. With almost all of South Africa’s top players in attendance, there will be many opportunities for fans to see their cricket hero’s up close and personal.
SuperSport International have come on board as the official broadcast partner of the event.

All cricket fans now have the chance to play the role of selectors in voting for the players they would like to see making the final squad of 13 players from which the respective coaches, Geoffrey Toyana and Paul Adams, will select the playing XI’s in consultation with their captains.
To do this they must sms South/North and the players name to 45732. Sms’s are charged at R1.50 per sms. Fans can vote as many times as they like.
The selectors will appoint the respective captains once the squads of 13 have been determined by the fans.

Two lucky winners will win an all-expenses trip to the Festival of Cricket and will be able to watch the State of Origins match from the unique environment of the dressing room.

In terms of the State of Origin qualification rules the North will have the services of the likes of Graeme Smith, AB de Villiers,  Imran Tahir, Aaron Phangiso, Dale Steyn and the Morkel brothers  while the South can call on Hashim Amla, Henry Davids, Jacques Kallis, JP Duminy, Kyle Abbott, Thami Tsolekile and Lonwabo Tsotsobe.
