Coaching Mentors
Almost as a direct result of the annual tournament forums and based on observations made regarding the standard of coaches/coaching, areas of concerns and glaring tactical deficiencies, The Youth Cricket Manager and the Manager of Coaching discussed the concept of appointing ‘coaching mentors’ at the various cricket weeks and subsequently identified suitable, experienced candidates to act in this capacity for the first time at the 2008 weeks.
This was continued in December last year and the mentors are basically tasked to meet with the coaches during the week, offer relevant advice and assistance to them and generally contribute to their overall growth as a coach; in a way, a perfect ‘in-house’ and/or on the job practical training opportunity.
