THE Border Cricket Board (BCB) on Saturday clarified the situation regarding the failure of the floodlights in the closing stages of the Sunfoil One-Day International between the Proteas’ Castle Lager squad and Sri Lanka at Buffalo Park.
“There was a fault that caused an electrical fire and our team of electricians immediately closed down all the floodlights as a safety measure while the problem was sorted out,” commented BCB CEO Themba Lupuwana.
“At no stage was anybody in any danger and we managed to get the floodlights working as normal again within 20 minutes. It was one of those unfortunate incidents that cannot be anticipated. Fortunately the game was not affected in any way.”
Mr Lupuwana said he was delighted with the almost full house (a crowd of more than 14 000) that attended the match. “There is a huge hunger for international cricket in this part of the world and I thought the game was a huge success from every point of view.”
