CAP Initiative (Coaches Acceleration Programme)

The CAP initiative was introduced and launched in April 2009 and the first Coaches’ Camp for 15 age-group coaches nominated by their respective affiliates, was held at the hpc from 29th April to 1st May. A second camp was then conducted in October (early season) aimed exclusively at the respective Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week coaches and this gave us the opportunity to assist these coaches prepare for the annual December tournament but also to integrate and align the regional programmes with the National U/19 structure (see attached programme).

This latest capacity building project was extremely well-received by the Unions and the coaches themselves and these camps promise to contribute significantly to the quality of our coaches and impact positively on the standard of coaching in general.

At the last Provincial Coaching Managers’ workshop/meeting held on 23rd & 24th February,
we informed the affiliate/associate delegates that these camps will be extended to all
age-group coaches in 2010 (from Standard Bank U/13 to Coca Cola Khaya Majola Week).

The focus at the camps is primarily on developing the ‘soft skills’ rather than the more
technical cricket skills normally covered during the actual courses.
