Provincial Coaching Forums
The provinces have been encouraged to introduce and conduct regular coaching forums or workshops for their association or forum members; these may differ in format from province to province; some Unions that cover vast areas implement a regional system with area chairmen/coordinators, e.g. Border, EP & SWD (East London Central, Queenstown, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Grahamstown to name but a few).
In addition to the workshops run by the respective affiliates/associates, I personally conduct an evening forum for the provincial age-group coaches at each of the national tournaments annually. The forums range from ‘technical master-classes’ to general discussions and presentations on a variety of coaching topics, such as ‘key elements for success’ to batting/bowling techniques, essential safety issues, illegal or suspect bowling actions or specialist skills & drills sessions and from time to time have featured guest presenters like Gary Kirsten, Graham Ford, Vinnie Barnes, Corrie van Zyl, Rossco Barrat and other former players and coaches. We have even had Imraan Khan address the young Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week players from a SA U/19 captain’s perspective to give them some insight to what is required at the next level.
