Nashua Dolphins

NASHUA DOLPHINS is the brand name for the KwaZulu-Natal franchise which consists of both the Durban and Maritzburg-based unions. They play most of their home matches at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead with the Alexandra Oval in Maritzburg as an alternative venue.

With probably the best cricket pitch in the country at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead at their disposal, they have had an outstanding record in four-day SuperSport Series cricket, topping the log and winning back-to-back titles in the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons. Recently they have had to go through a rebuilding period through the loss of stalwarts Lance Klusener and Dale Benkenstein overseas and the retirement of Proteas legend Shaun Pollock.

They are, however, probably blessed with more top quality cricketing schools than any other franchise in the country and it should not take them too long to restock their reserves.

They have an outstanding role model in Hashim Amla, the only CSA contracted player on the Dolphins' books at the moment, and several other players doing well for South Africa A including captain Ahmed Amla, Daryn Smit, Imraan Khan, Yusuf Abdullah and Johann Louw. The batting line-up also includes talented youngsters in David Miller, Khaya Zondo and Cameron Delport.

The biggest gain for the Dolphins is not so much the arrival of new talent (Loots Bosman) as the return of former coach Graham Ford who has rectuited Lance Klusener to look after the bowling side of things.

Their captain is Ahmed Amla and the coach Graham Ford.
