NASHUA TITANS is the brand name for the Northern Gauteng franchise and consists of the Northerns and Easterns unions. The headquarters are at SuperSport Park, Centurion, with Willowmoore Park, Benoni, also being used as a regular venue. Both of these venues, in fact, rank among the finest pitches in the country.
The Titans have been one of the most successful franchises since formation with victory in all three domestic competitions and five trophy successes in all. They had a successful campaign last season, winning the MTN Domestic Championship and the Supersport Series. The Titans are capable of taking on any domestic team in the world when at full strength as, between them, they contribute 13 players to the Proteas in the various formats of the game. Such is the strength of their squad, in fact, that there have been times when Proteas' new find Roloef van der Merwe has not been able to get into their four-day line-up. They have an enviable depth of talent, possessing as they do most of the Proteas Castle Test squad bowling attack and one of its most brilliant batsmen in AB de Villiers. The other nationally contracted players are Dale Steyn, Paul Harris and the Morkel brothers, Albie and Morne. Titans certainly have enough players on the fringes of national selection to make up for the absence of the "big guns". These include Heino Kuhn, Farhaan Behardien and recently qualified Imran Tahir. One of the strengths of the Titans is the manner in which they have built up their reserve strength with the result that they can put powerful line-ups in the field even when their national representatives are not available. The Titans captain is Pierre Joubert, one of their unsung stalwarts, and have the services of newly selected coach, Chris Noordwyk. Squad: Pierre Joubert, Heino Kuhn, Blake Snijman, Pieter Malan, Jacques Rudolph, Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers, Gulam Bodi, Farhaan Behardien, Jaco Booysen, Mangaliso Mosehle, Albie Morkel, Tyron Henderson, David Wiese, Roloef van der Merwe, Imran Tahir, Morne Morkel, Dale Steyn, Paul Harris, Ethy Mbhalati, Basheer Walters, Matthew Arnold. |
