At the recent launch of the KFC ‘Get into Action. Get into KFC Mini-Cricket.’ campaign, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced that it will be expanding the KFC Mini-Cricket programme to make it even more accessible for children across South Africa to live active and balanced lifestyles. Amongst the changes for the season sees the KFC Mini-Cricket programme now including pre-schoolers and differently abled children. From a girl’s perspective, the playing age limit for mini-cricket has been increased from 11 to 13.

KFC Mini-Cricket ambassador Trisha Chetty of the national women’s team feels that this will have a significant effect on girl’s cricket in the country.

“Cricket has had such a tremendous impact on my life which is something I wish all girls could experience,” says the talented wicketkeeper who started playing cricket at the tender age of 11.

She believes that exposing girls to the game at a young age and keeping that momentum going through their early teens will help grow the sport from a grassroots level.

In order to drive awareness for KFC Mini-Cricket, there will be several activities taking place throughout the country this season.

The campaign will see 10 000 children actively participating at KFC Mini-Cricket festivals across South Africa from now until March next year. KFC will also be activating their inflatable KFC Action Zones at all the festivals, which allow the children to test their cricket skills in fun and exciting ways.

KFC, in partnership with CSA, will be taking the KFC Action Zones to Ster-Kinekor cinemas nationwide to introduce the programme to children that may not have been exposed to KFC Mini-Cricket before. There will also be KFC Mini-Cricket festivals at the test matches against Australia and Sri Lanka, where the ‘Get into Action. Get into KFC Mini-Cricket.’ campaign message will be communicated to the crowds.
