The tendency of the captains to play a major role at Cricket South Africa’s Franchise Cubs Week in Stellenbosch continued on the third day as Grant Edmeades, captain of the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras, led his side to an eight-wicket victory over the bizhub Highveld Lions.

The left-arm fast bowler of the Cape Cobras, Jan Frylinck, laid the foundation for the victory. Frylinck (4/23) got rid of the four top order batsmen of the Lions: Quinton de Kock (1), Paul de Chaud (48), Michael Sherrat (2) and Shaylen Pillay (5). The Lions were in trouble at 38/4 with Rabian Engelbrecht getting rid of Tshepang Dithole for his only scalp in the game.

Edmeades virtually dismissed the whole tail of the Lions as he was the bowler who sent Yasser Cook (41), Gareth Harte (1), David Rhoda
(8) and Carmi le Roux (0) packing. He also ran out Michael Faassen without him troubling the scorers at all.

Edmeades (61*) the scored an unbeaten half-century to steer his side home. He and David Beddingham (59*) shared an unbeaten 118-run partnership for the third wicket.

Three half-centuries by Sumanth Sunkari (75), Chad Bowes (69) and Jared van Heerden (68) respectively helped the Dolphins to 252/7 in their innings and set-up a 74-run victory over the Chevrolet Knights.

Sunkari and Van Heerden shared a 121-run partnership for the fourth wicket. The pick of the Knights bowlers was Johan van Dyk who orchestrated the demise of three Dolphin batsman, conceding 44 runs.

The Knights could only manage 178 in reply with Prenelan Subrayen
(3/33) and Sahil Bissoon (3/33) causing most of the damage for the Dolphins. Vasili Orros (47) and Diego Rosier (46) was the only batsman of the Knights who managed to get the scoreboard ticking.

The Nashua Titans handed the Chevrolet Warriors their third defeat at the tournament by beating them by 31 runs. The Titans batted first and recorded 218/4 with opening batsman JP Kok (77) and Lesiba Ngoepe
(56*) weighing in with half-centuries. The Warriors was restricted to
187 in their innings with Kok (2/29) being the pick of the Titans’
bowlers.
