CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) on Monday congratulated the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and Team South Africa on the latter’s successful campaign at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
“From the moment that Caster Semenya led our team into the stadium for the opening ceremony to the moment that she won our sixth and final medal there has been much of a positive nature for us to embrace as a country,” commented CSA Acting CEO Jacques Faul.
“This has been our most successful Olympic Games since unity and the only time we have won more gold medals than the three we won here was 100 years ago in Stockholm when there were considerably fewer competing countries.
“To finish as the leading African country on the final medals table ahead of the east African powerhouses of Ethiopia and Kenya represents a major achievement as well.
“We congratulate all the Team South Africa competitors, many of whom achieved personal bests without necessarily winning medals, as well as the coaches and administrators who have worked so hard behind the scenes,” he concluded.
