Kyle Abbott rocked the Chevrolet Warriors with a hostile spell which produced five wickets in 4.5 overs as the hosts collapsed in a heap and were dismissed for 154 in the Sunfoil Series match against the Sunfoil Dolphins at Buffalo Park in East London on Friday.
Abbott finished with 6-64 in 18.5 overs. In the spell after lunch, he took 5-31 in 4.5 overs with a deadly cocktail of prodigious swing and lethal reverse swing on an immaculate length.
He changed the complexion of the match within five overs, as the Dolphins, who managed 296 in their first innings, now enjoy a healthy 142-run first-innings cushion.
The last seven wickets fell for the addition of 52 runs in one session of mayhem.
Andrew Birch hit back with a wicket straight away. Divan van Wyk was caught by a diving Simon Harmer in the gully for 15 to reduce the Dolphins to 15 for one off Birch in their second innings.
Imraan Khan and Jonathan Vandiar will resume after the break on 23 for one. It is an overall lead of 165.
The Warriors resumed after lunch on Firday on 92 for 3, with Michael Price on 39 and Ashwell Prince on 1.
Abbott then ripped through the middle order and nipped out three wickets in the space of eleven balls.
He had Ashwell Prince caught at second slip by Vaughn van Jaarsveld to reduce the Warriors to 102 for four.
In his next over, Michael Price misjudged a swinging delivery and was trapped in front for 44. He faced 111 deliveries and scored six boundaries.
The Warriors slipped to 111 for six when Abbott bowled Kelly Smuts for 3.
Abbott was now on a hat-trick, but Athenkosi Dyili averted the hat-trick.
The seam- and swing bowler did not allow the batting tail to wag, as he bowled Andrew Birch for 2 and Gurshwin Rabie for a duck.
Dyili was run out after a horrible mix-up with Colin Ingram for 11.
Ingram misjudged an arm ball by Prenelan Subrayen and was trapped in front for 18.
Abbott wrapped up the innings when he had Rabie caught at short leg by Van Wyk for 0.
Apart from Abbott, Subrayen produced credible figures with his 2-49 in seventeen overs.
