The Chevrolet Knights and the Sunfoil Dolphins square off against each other in the Sunfoil Series on Thursday and after bad light denied the Dolphins against the Chevrolet Warriors in their previous game, the Durban-side will be looking to take their chances where they can.
The bad news is that periods of rain are forecast for the match and Dolphins captain Daryn Smit said it will be absolutely crucial to ensure that the team stays switched on in the dressing room.
“We’re almost used to being affected by light and rain now, it reached a stage last season where it almost looked like it was following us around,” Smit said.
“The key is for the guys to stay focused when they’re in the changeroom, because if it’s bad light that’s having an impact, you can go from being really relaxed to high match intensity in just a few minutes and making sure that you’re in the right frame of mind is absolutely crucial.”
The Dolphins have had a reasonable start to their season under the guidance of new coach Lance Klusener and the skipper believes his influence is already showing.
"Klusener has played a massive role and he's completely changed the mindset of the players and the working environment. Our team's outlook is much more positive and I think that's something which has shown in our first two games."
The Dolphins lost their first match in gripping fashion against the BizHub Highveld Lions and they came very close to clinching a win against the Warriors over the weekend, only to be denied by bad light and Smit says he hopes his charges can close out the matches when they find themselves in winning situations.
"In the past two weeks we have played ourselves into winning positions and we need to make sure we close out those situation and win the game. I think that's definitely the one area we need to improve on,”
The Knights meanwhile had their first match against the Nashua Cape Cobras abandoned without a ball being bowled and had to settle for a draw against the Titans. The two sides will have to think on their feet if the rain comes into play in Pietermaritzburg as both need a win in order to stay in contention for the title race.
