The bizhub Highveld Lions won the toss and elected to bat first in their Momentum One Day Cup clash with the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras under sunny skies at Sahara Park Newlands in Cape Town on Friday.
The decision came as no surprise with statistics having favoured sides batting first in day/night games at Newlands over the years.
The table-topping Lions have been rampant in their first two games. Their bowling attack knocked the Nashua Titans over for just 60 in the first game, and then the Chevrolet Warriors for 110 in their clash in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.
Geoffrey Toyana’s men easily chased down the target, and their batsmen will now be looking to set an imposing total for their in-form bowlers to defend.
The Cobras come into today’s match on the back of a four-wicket defeat to the Titans in Benoni on Wednesday. After a good start, the men from the Cape were guilty of falling 20 to 30 runs short in setting a target which ultimately cost them the game.
Paul Adams’ men will now be looking to rectify this in front of their home crowd, and will look to put early pressure on a Lions side that has yet to be properly tested.
The home side have made one change for today’s game, with Johann Louw coming in for Alistair Gray.
The Lions have named an unchanged XI.
