St Dunstan’s College was the in-form team as they won all three their matches in the latest Easterns Cricket Union round of the Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge.
They beat Höerskool Brandwag by eight wickets with Brandon Botha taking four wickets for 15 runs to restrict them to 86 runs. Matthew Corin scored an unbeaten 54 to get his side the win. Brandwag had a bad week, losing their second match against Höerskool Hans Moore by a narrow three runs.
Richard Emslie went on to join Corin as a leading runs scorer when they scored 74 and 73 not out respectively in St Dunstan’s match against Wattville High School to give them an emphatic 173-run victory. Botha's name featured once again taking three for 24.
Corin was in form once again for St Dunstan’s when they faced Hulwazi High School. He returned unbeaten for 33 when they chased Hulwazi's 63 all out. St Dunstan’s won by 10 wickets.
CBC Boksburg beat Höerskool Die Akker by eight runs. CBC batted first with Adam Forbes top scoring with 41 before his side was bowled out for 141. In reply, JP Meade and Courtney Hammon took two wickets each to restrict Die Akker to 133 for eight and claim their victory.
In the Northerns region Thiart le Roux (60) and Ryan Lancaster (54) of Höerskool Montana both scored half centuries to beat Höerskool Oosmoot by 49 runs. Montana posted a competitive 164/4 and Oosmoot, managed 115/8 in their 20 overs with Dylan van Wyk taking three wickets for eight.
Höerskool Zwartkop beat Tuks Sport High by 35 runs while Höerskool Garsfontein suffered a four-wicket defeat to Cornwall Hill College.
In one of the lowest scoring matches of the Schools T20 season so far, the Free State's Grey College bowled Höerskool Staats President Swart out for 21 runs to beat them by 10 wickets.
Grey College 2 beat AHS Kroonstad by 91 runs. Grey 2 batted first, setting an imposing 210 for Kroonstad. Fritz de Beer scored 96 runs before his dismissal and was well backed up by Barend de Klerk (53) and André Burger (51) to give Kroonstad the daunting task of the chase. M Matthee was the highest run scorer for them, managing 37 runs before his dismissal as Kroonstad were removed for 119/6.
Jacques Mulder scored 84 runs for Sentraal Höerskool when they faced Zastron Höerskool. R Robberts chipped in with 41 runs to set a target of 196 runs. In reply, Sentraal's bowling attack was too good, H Dryer took 4/9 and B Neethling chipped in with a notable 2/2 to dismiss Zastron for 76 to give Sentraal a 119-run victory.
In the South Western Districts, Point High School won both of their matches. They beat Kairos Secondary by 61 runs and went on to inflict a 131-run thrashing on Albertina High School with Pierre Swanepoel and Durant Lucas scoring 82 and 54 respectively in that match. Jayvier Denhing took an impressive four wickets for two while Louis Biziaco took three for 21 and Dane Henegan chipped in with two for 17.
Albertina were also beaten by Sao Bras Secondary by 42 runs.
In the Western Province, Western Province Cricket Club beat Western Cape Sports School by 39 runs. WP Cricket Club posted 143/6 after batting first with Chad Johnson returning unbeaten for 64 runs. J Arendse of WC Sports School top scored with 31 in their reply. They only managed 104/7 in their allotted overs.
Brackenfell High School were one of the few schools who managed to defend their low scoring total. They scored 87/6 in their match against Höerskool De Kuilen. Migual de Sousa and René Gericke took two wickets each to restrict De Kuilen to 80/9 and claim a seven-run victory.
