EXPERIENCED OPENER Imraan Khan struck a measured century to spearhead the Sunfoil Dolphins to their second Momentum One-Day Cup win of the season as they overcame the Nashua Titans by four wickets at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead in Durban on Friday.

The former captain made 101 and received vital support from Cody Chetty (40), while Robbie Frylinck (25) saw the hosts over the line with eight balls to spare as they pursued a 251 runs victory target.

It meant that that magnificence of Mangaliso Mosehle’s maiden one-day ton was inconsequential, although the young wicketkeeper did ensure he will be one of the players to look out for as the season continues. He powered seven sixes and seven fours in his 118 off 120 deliveries and shared in an excellent 142 runs stand in just 20.2 overs with Henry Davids (63).

When the two were together, the Titans threatened to run away with the game, but faltered miserably to be eventually dismissed in 45.4 overs.

Kyle Abbott, axed for the previous match, responded admirably for the home team with three for 44, while Prenelan Subrayen also showed good maturity by bouncing back with three for 52 after an earlier pasting.

After winning the toss and batting first, the visitors found themselves in some early trouble when Craig Alexander (2-33) accounted for Heino Kuhn (four) in the fourth over, the batsman chasing wildly after a wide delivery that was edged to Robbie Frylinck at slip.

But Mosehle and Davids rebuilt magnificently. After sharing a partnership of 50 in 51 deliveries, opener Davids reached his 23rd one-day half-century from 56 balls. Mosehle, who earlier greeted spinner Subrayen’s third delivery with a straight six, reached his own 50 in 57 balls as the 100 was raised in the 19th over.

The young wicketkeeper continued to take a liking to the off-break bowler striking two out of three more sixes conceded by Subrayen as the Titans surged to 150 in a mere 23 overs.

The return of Lonwabo Tsotsobe (2-42) to the attack brought about the breakthrough as Davids sliced to Subrayen at third man.

That brought about a flurry of wickets with Martin van Jaarsveld (one) bowled by Alexander, followed by Abbott accounting for Farhaan Behardien (three), Albie Morkel (one) and David Wiese (nought). Suddenly they had slipped from 152 for one to 174 for six.

There was a 10-minute delay for a floodlight failure at 17h30 with the score on186 for six after 32 overs but, once they resumed, Mosehle went to his century off 94 balls by flicking Abbott through midwicket for four.

Roelof van der Merwe (14) helped get the Nashua Titans past 200, but once he fell the tail offered little with the side being all out with 4.2 overs to spare.
