Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) George campus won their second match in spectacular fashion when they thumped Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) by a staggering 428 runs on Day Two of the University Sport South Africa (USSA) B Week in Oudtshoorn on Tuesday.

B Carolus, W Scholtz and J Hendricks scored inspired knocks of 125, 123 and 100 respectively to post a demoralizing 461 on the board for TUT to chase in spite of K Serokane's 6/76. TUT did not show up with the bat and NMMU were going full steam ahead. L Volkwyn, who took four wickets yesterday, returned to claim an awe-inspiring fifer for just 12 runs. B Goeda (3/15) and M Slabber (2/0), helped to pack a massive punch and discarded TUT for a miserable 33 runs. NMMU top the Section A2 log with 10 points.

Durban University of Technology (DUT) bounced back from their eight-wicket loss to NMMU in exhilarating form, beating University of Venda by a comprehensive 164 runs in their Section A2 match up. D Govender and B Ndunge scored 80 and 48 respectively to get their side to 223/8 after they were put in to bat first. Govender topped up his batting with a scintillating bowling performance, taking five wickets for 16 to have Venda skittled out for 59 runs.

In the lowest scoring match of the day, Cape Peninsula University (CPUT) destroyed the North West University's (Mafikeng) batting line-up in their Section A1 contest. R Lock and J Adams took turns with the batsmen and both bowlers returned with a fifer each, bundling NW out for 23 runs. CPUT made quick work of the chase and won by 10 wickets.

In the last Section A1 match, University of Limpopo (Turfloop) beat University of Zululand by six wickets while in Pool B the South Western Districts (SWD) XI beat the University of Limpopo (MEDUNSA) by eight wickets and University of Fort Hare stunned University of Mangosuthu with a 181-run loss.

Mangosuthu won the toss and sent Fort Hare in to bat first. Fifties from S Mabusela and T Linake got their side to 287/7 at the end of their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Mangosuthu were 106 all out with S Phumelani taking three wickets for 28 runs.

In the Pool B log, SWD and Fort Hare both have 10 points but the former will claim the top spot due to a superior net run rate.
