The bizhub Highveld Lions secured top spot on the Momentum One-Day Cup standings and a home final after their match against the Chevrolet Knights was abandoned without a ball being bowled at the De Beers Diamond Oval in Kimberley on Wednesday.
Kimberly was buffeted by a thunder shower and the umpires eventually called the contest off two hours and 45 minutes after the scheduled start because of the persistent rain.
The no-result saw both teams pick up two points with the bizhub Highveld Lions ending the group stage of the competition with 30 points after five wins, two losses and three no-results from their 10 matches.
The bizhub Highveld Lions will host the final of the Momentum One-Day Cup at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium on December 14.
The no-result was the third that the Chevrolet Knights have had to endure this season as they ended on 20 log points after winning just three of their 10 games.
The lack of play also ended the Chevrolet Knights’ slim chances of making the play-off match as they had needed to win the contest and hope that other results had gone their way
