Richard Levi was the architect of an emphatic 111-run victory by the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras against the Nashua Titans in their Momentum One-Day Cup match at Boland Park in Paarl on Wednesday.
This result confirmed them in second place on the final log and they will now host the Nashua Titans, who finished third, once again in the play-off match at Sahara Park Newlands on Sunday. This match will decide which franchise plays the bizhub Highveld Lions in the Momentum One-Day Cup Final at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium on Friday, 14 December.
Levi hammered a magnificent 166 off 134 deliveries, with twelve fours and six sixes, the joint second-highest score yet in a domestic List A-match, to propel the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras to 316 for seven.
The Titans could only manage 205 in reply.
Andrew Puttick and Levi got the innings off to a flyer as they featured in a 158-run partnership for the opening wicket off 24.2 overs. Puttick rotated the strike well before he was trapped in front for 46 by Roelof van der Merwe off 72 balls.
The Nashua Titans contributed to their own demise with their bowlers maintaining a mediocre line which enabled the prolific Levi to pull, drive and hook on his beloved on-side.
Set a gigantic target of 317, the Nashua Titans failed to launch. Justin Kemp, with 3-49 in ten overs, and Justin Ontong, with 2-35 in seven overs, played critical roles in causing the implosion of a strong middle-order.
A double-strike by the hosts had the Nashua Titans under early pressure. Henry Davids was outwitted by Johann Louw, who produced a slower delivery and enticed Davids into a drive to short midwicket, where he was caught by Andrew Puttick for 7.
The prolific Heino Kuhn was then trapped in front by an impressive Lizaad Williams for 10 as the Titans slipped to 27 for two after 5.1 overs.
Roelof van der Merwe, sent in to give the innings early momentum, holed out to Yaseen Vallie at long-on for 16 off Kemp as the Nashua Titans were reduced to 66 for three in the fifteenth over.
