BATSMEN found runs hard to come by on the second day of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) under-13 cricket week in the Boland on Monday.
There were nevertheless some outstanding individual performances. Gauteng were the team of the day, easily having the better of Boland on the first innings and, in fact, getting quite close to a double innings victory.
One of their batsman, Christopher Schreuder (71 off only 77 balls), made the top score of the day while their left-arm wrist spinner, Craig Meier had match figures of 12/50, taking 8/36 – the best return of the week so far – in the Boland first innings and 4/14 in the second. He was thus responsible for 12 of the 15 wickets taken by the Gauteng bowlers with one of the other three being a run out.
Another wrist spinner in form was James Ritchie who took 5/45 for Border against North West. Dian de Bruyn of Free State took six wickets in two innings against SWD to go with the six wickets he took on the first day.
Other good batting performances came from Tom Price of KZN Inland (67 not out), Sean Gilson of KZN (50), Richard Matewa of Zimbabwe (61), Jason Raubenheimer of Border (51) and Ernst Louw of Limpopo (51).
