THERE was excitement aplenty on the third day of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) under-13 week when the competition switched to the T20 format with all sides playing two matches.
Gauteng tied with Border but then managed to win the one-over eliminator to claim the match.
Four teams – Limpopo, North West, Western Province and KwaZulu-Natal – managed to win both their matches. Limpopo’s achievement was outstanding for one of the smaller cricketing provinces and they had one of the stars of the day in Ernst Louw who followed up the half-century he made on the second day by returning scores of 67 off 49 balls and 43 off 29 balls to have an aggregate of more than 100 for the day.
The leading runs scorer on the day was Daniel du Plessis of Boland who has also had a good week. He made 44 in Boland’s defeat to North West but led his team to an easy victory over Easterns in the afternoon when he made an unbeaten 86 off 54 balls. This is the highest individual score in the week to date.
The best bowling performances came from Sean Callaghan who took 4/1 for Eastern Province and Taun Harrison who took 5/22 for Zimbabwe.
