The Proteas women got their five-match ODI series off to a positive start when they beat the West Indies by a comprehensive 80 runs in St. Kitts on Monday.
South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first posting 206/8 thanks to a half century from Trisha Chetty (57) and a valuable 48-run contribution by captain, Mignon du Preez.
In reply, the hosts could not contend with a ruthless South African attack lead by Dané van Niekerk whose brilliant seven over spell of 5/28 included a hat-trick. Marizanne Kapp and Susan Benade claimed two wickets each to round off a superb all round effort by the visitors.
The Windies will look to avenge themselves when they take on the visitors in the second ODI tomorrow at Warner Park Stadium.
