Andrew Birch's four wickets ensured that the Chevrolet Warriors ended the second day of their Sunfoil Series match on Friday against the Chevrolet Knights in a dominant position, with the home side 76 for five in their second innings at Chevrolet Park.

The Chevrolet Warriors, having made 281 in thieir first innings, trail the Chevrolet Knights by just 63 runs, though they still require five more scalps before they bat again.

The Chevrolet Warriors had earlier resumed on 79 for two in their first innings, with Arno Jacobs and Ashwell Prince still at the crease. Jacobs didn't last long, as he was caught by Dean Elgar off the bowling of Dillon du Preez for 40.

Prince fell in a similar fashion, snaffled by Rilee Rossouw for 37, as the Chevrolet Warriors slumped to 109 for four. Vusi Makhaphela (35) added further resistance, but it was Simon Harmer's 50 that helped the visitors surpass the Chevrolet Knights' total.

Andrew Birch (27) and Harmer added a crucial 59 for the eighth wicket, with Harmer taking a particular fancy to Patrick Botha's bowling as the Chevrolet Warriors went past the Chevrolet Knights' 268 total.

Du Preez (two for 55), Romano Terblanche (two for 44) and Malusi Siboto (two for 61) all chipped in with wickets, but it was Corne Dry's three for 68 that stood out for the Chevrolet Knights in the field.

When the home outfit launched their second innings, they made the worst possible start, as Michael Erlank (0) and Rossouw (4) both fell in Birch's superb first over. After that double disaster, the Chevrolet Knights required quick repair, but Rudi Second became Birch's third scalp, also caught behind for three, as the Knights crashed to 11 for three.

Birch's fantastic burst wasn't yet finished as he had Ryan Bailey caught and bowled to complete a stunning spell of four for 17 in six overs. Harmer then trapped Obus Pienaar (17) leg before as the Chevrolet Warriors ended the day on a high.

Dean Elgar (28) and Patrick Botha (14) will have to dig the hosts out of a considerable hole on the third day.
