The Castle Lager Proteas convened in Johannesburg on Tuesday, ahead of the first Sunfoil Test against Pakistan starting at the Bidvest Wanderers on Friday.

The squad welcomed back a fit Vernon Philander, who has successfully recovered from the hamstring strain which kept him out of the second Test against New Zealand in Port Elizabeth.

Hashim Amla has also recovered from the strain he sustained to his right quad muscle during the Momentum ODI Series against New Zealand.

The only injury concern for the Proteas is that of Robin Peterson, who is into the seventh day of recovery after receiving stitches to his right hand for a split webbing.

Proteas Team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee said: “Robbie had a light training session this afternoon to allow the hand more time to recover. It’s still too early to make a call on his availability for the Test match, but we are looking at Wednesday after practice or early Thursday morning.”
