The bizhub Highveld Lions won the toss and asked the visiting Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras to take first strike in their season-opening RAM SLAM T20 Challenge match at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Sunday.
The clash is effectively the first of the 2012/13 competition, running concurrently with the Chevrolet Knights versus the Chevrolet Warriors game taking place in Potchefstroom, after Friday’s match-up between the Dolphins and Titans was washed out in Durban.
The two franchises have been the stand-out ones in South African cricket this season, the Capetonians winning the four-day Sunfoil Series.
They also shared the Momentum One Day Cup trophy with the Lions and will be aiming for an unprecedented treble.
Both teams fielded one overseas player – the hosts, who have a new captain in Jean Symes, including Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir in their XI, while the visitors have named Englishman Owais Shah.
