CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) on Sunday congratulated the Proteas Castle Lager squad on their series victory over Pakistan after they won the second Sunfoil Test match at Sahara Park Newlands by four wickets.

The Proteas now hold an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series with the final match to be played at SuperSport Park next week.

“This is South Africa’s sixth Test series victory in a row,” commented CSA Acting CEO Jacques Faul. “They have also won their last five Test matches in a row and have an unbeaten record of 14 successive Test matches.

“This latest victory underlined once again the strength of character and mind of our team. Pakistan had them under severe pressure at the end of the second day when they played some of the best cricket we have seen at Sahara Park Newlands by a visiting team for some time. In fact, both teams deserve congratulations for the wonderful entertainment they have provided over the past four days.

“This game has had its ebbs and flows in the best tradition of Test match cricket and there have been some fine individual performances on both sides.

“It has been a very fitting manner for our captain, Graeme Smith, to celebrate his 100th game as our captain and I thought his captaincy today contributed a great deal to bowling Pakistan out for a low second innings total and giving our players a lower final innings target than might otherwise have been the case.

“I would also like to congratulate Robbie Peterson on being named Sunfoil Man of the Match. He does not always get the credit he deserves for his efforts. He produced a fine all-round performance in this match that enabled us to be level on the first innings – a key tactical factor – and his return to the Test side has coincided with our current run of five successive wins.”
