Springbok Rugby coach, Heyneke Meyer interacted with the Castle Lager Proteas’ Test squad on Wednesday afternoon in a session initiated to facilitate information and idea sharing between the two sporting bodies. Meyer, who was joined by his assistant coach Johan van Graan shared some of the behind the scenes workings of the Springbok management and team, along with the team culture they are nurturing.
“An important element of a winning team is team culture, and who better than the No.1 Team in the world to share this vital component with us,” Meyer said. “Rugby and cricket may be played differently on the field but the team culture is the foundation that all sporting success is based on.
“It was a fascinating afternoon for us to watch and learn how the Proteas operate, we are really proud of the what they have achieved” he added. “They have created a comfortable environment, well sustained by a strong base of senior players and a good management core. It has been impressive to watch and I’m looking forward to pass on some valuable insight.”
Proteas head coach, Gary Kirsten was equally impressed with the way the national rugby team was run and hopes to have more meetings in the future.
“Special thanks to Heyneke and Johan for sharing their team culture with us today,” Kirsten said. “It’s always interesting and necessary to share information with other sporting bodies and today provided us with some insight into our national rugby set-up.”
