PAARL: The Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras clinched a convincing victory over the Chevrolet Knights, beating them by 25 runs in the RAM SLAM T20 Challenge at Boland Park on Friday.

Dane Vilas, Owais Shah and Justin Ontong put in good contributions with the bat to help the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras post 171-4 after being sent into bat while Beuran Hendricks  claimed a career best 2-16 to help the hosts bounce back from a loss in their first match.

The Chevrolet Knights won the toss and elected to field first and got off to a good start, dismissing Stiaan van Zyl early on, but Richard Levi and Dane Vilas combined for a 58-run stand to steady the ship.

Vilas continued the charge, hitting 48 off just 38 balls before he holed out to Nicky Boje at midwicket off the bowling of Malusi Siboto. The Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras, however, still had the upper hand at 118-3.

Overseas- signing Azhar Mahmood, in the side to replace the injured Justin Kemp, managed just 13 off 12 balls before going across his stumps to be bowled by Ryan McLaren.

Ontong then hammered 20 off just six balls, taking 10 runs off the final over of the innings, hitting Van der Wath to all corners of the park.

Shah, meanwhile, chipped in with an unbeaten 44 off 31 balls to help the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras to a competitive total.

The Chevrolet Knights got their chase off to the worst possible start with Rilee Rossouw falling in the second over for a three-ball duck, becoming Hendricks’ first victim.

Gihahn Cloete followed two overs later, getting a top-edge going for the pull shot as Hendricks bagged his second stick.

A change of bowling in the seventh over saw Johann Louw pick up two from two with both Obus Pienaar and Ryan Bailey falling cheaply and the Chevrolet Knights were in trouble at 18-4.

Loots Bosman, who battled for his five off 21 balls, was the next wicket, caught by Hendricks off the bowling of Dane Piedt as the visitors were left reeling at 38-5.

Werner Coetsee was next, after adding just six, he tried to reverse sweep and was trapped in front of his stumps by Piedt.

Ryan McLaren and Johan van der Wath tried their best to steady the ship but, after adding 51 off 38 balls, McLaren was clean bowled by Charl Langeveldt and, with the Chevrolet Knights all but having lost the game, Van der Wath holed out.

Ontong took a magnificent catch on the ropes, making a lot of ground to pouch it as Van der Wath was sent on his way for a solid 49 off 22 balls, having helped the Chevrolet Knights prevent the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras from clinching a bonus point.

Jandre Coetzee and Nicky Boje were left to fight a losing battle and the Chevrolet Knights slumped to 146-8 in their 20 overs, losing their second match on the trot.
