A swashbuckling half-century by Christian Jonker propelled the Chevrolet Warriors to152 for nine in the RAM SLAM T20 Challenge match against the Nashua Titans at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Friday.
The belligerent Jonker had the visitors off to a flyer as they reached 54 without loss after six overs.
He completed his half-century off 32 balls, with nine fours and a six.
The innings started with a bang but faded after the halfway-mark as the visitors suffered a mini-collapse mid-innings.
The left-arm spinner Roelof van der Merwe was the destroyer-in-chief in that period with his 2-20 off four overs.
The swing bowler Alfonso Thomas was superb in his second spell and captured 3-30 to limit the visitors to 42 runs in a rather unproductive final five overs.
Adrian McLaren produced an explosive cameo and smashed two sixes during his 28 off 18-balls to give the Warriors some late impetus before Thomas struck with two scalps in the final over.
Early on, Jonker treated the off-spinner Eden Links with disdain and smashed 21 runs in his first two overs.
It seemed temporarily as if the hosts were inflicted by the same malaise that had been a characteristic of their miserable Sunfoil Series-campaign as their bowling attack lacked penetration early on and suffered at the hands of the rampant Jonker.
A double-break by the left-arm spinner Van der Merwe and the reintroduction of the fast bowler Marchant de Lange saw the Warriors slip from 74 without loss to 83 for three.
Van der Merwe removed the aggressive Jonker for 50 as he was caught by Martin van Jaarsveld.
In his next over, Van der Merwe bamboozled the in-form Samit Patel and bowled him for 2, leaving the Warriors without their kingpin.
Jon-Jon Smuts, out of favour after an indifferent Sunfoil Series-campaign, returned to the side and showed aggressive intent early on with two massive sixes.
He catapulted the visitors to 110 for three before he was bowled by Links for 19 at the end of the fifteenth over.
McLaren threatened briefly with two sixes and two fours off eight deliveries before his pyro-technics was promptly terminated by the fiery De Lange.
Thomas bowled Simon Harmer for a duck and Wayne Parnell for 5 in the final over.
