The Chevrolet Knights won the toss and elected to bat first in their RAM SLAM T20 Challenge match against the Chevrolet Warriors at a blustery Axxess St George’s in Port Elizabeth on Thursday.

The crunch clash between the two Chevrolet sides is likely to have a significant bearing on the final standings, with the visiting Knights currently lying in fourth place on the log with 13 points – three adrift of their hosts who sit in second.

The Warriors find themselves nine points in arrears of the table-topping bizhub Highveld Lions, albeit with a game in hand. Victory against the Knights will thus be paramount if they are to mount a challenge for top spot and automatic passage into the lucrative Champions League.

They do, however, come into the fixture on the back of some good momentum, as a 12-run triumph against the Nashua Titans on Friday was their third win on the bounce.

In contrast, the Knights arrive in Port Elizabeth having suffered two successive defeats. Rilee Rossouw’s 47-ball knock of 76 had appeared to put his team in a good position to claim victory against the Lions in Kimberley on Tuesday, but some explosive hitting from Jean Symes at the death denied them the much-needed win, and they will now have to earn a place in the second and third place playoff match on April 3 if they are to have any chance of appearing in the final.

The Knights have also suffered a selection blow, with Rossouw contracting a viral infection and being unable to play. All-rounder Werner Coetsee takes his place, while the Warriors have made two changes from the side that beat the Titans, as Rusty Theron and skipper Davy Jacobs return to the starting XI.
