The successful partnership of Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB) alongside Momentum and Bidvest has raised close to R420,000 for Breast Cancer awareness charity, PinkDrive. A host of fund-raising activities culminated in a Pink Day at the 3rd Momentum One-Day International (ODI) between Pakistan and South Africa held at the Bidvest Wanderers last Sunday, 17 March 2013.
The tally kicked off with R80,000 from the Momentum Pink Golf Day, which included R9,000 from a World Wide Sports raffle held on the course plus pink ‘Shave & Spray” events held at Momentum offices. R27,500 was raised via a silent auction of Sports and Celebrity memorabilia from MSC Sports, and this pegged the starting amount at R107,500.
Sponsors and advertisers at the Bidvest Wanderers also came to the party with match pledges for runs, fours, sixes and balls hitting advertising perimeter boards.
Momentum had pledged R10,000 for every six hit into the Momentum Family area and, although only two shots hit the mark, Momentum donated the promised minimum of R50,000 to PinkDrive.
Momentum had also promised R100,000 for a six directly hitting their giant inflatable Momentum sign. However, in spite of there being no direct hits on Pink Day, Momentum still decided to donate an additional R100,000 to this worthwhile cause. Of the nearly R420k raised, Momentum’s initiatives contributed over R257,000 to the final amount.
Castle Lager were behind the Proteas with a cash injection for every run (R34,300), four (R11,200) and six (R4,200) scored on the day. The Proteas’ knock-out performance contributed to a total of R49,700 from team sponsor Castle Lager. Like Momentum and Bidvest, Castle also pimped their logo and signage in Pink for the day.
Bidvest Wanderers advertisers showed their support with donations every time their perimeter boards were hit:

Fans swelled the coffers with cash donations & hair spray (R18,955), pink memorabilia bought at the stadium (R22,726) and by R20 donations via the PinkDrive sms number 40158 (R45,480).
A huge thank you goes out to all fans, who attended and painted the Bidvest Wanderers Pink. The objectives of aiming for a World Record, raising Breast Cancer Awareness and raising funds to support awareness campaigns run by PinkDrive across the country were definitely met and exceeded.
