Christiaan Jonker propelled the Chevrolet Warriors to a bonus point and an emphatic 8-wicket victory against the lack-lustre Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras in their RAM SLAM T20 Challenge match at Sahara Park Newlands on Thursday.
The Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras, sent in to take first strike, managed 128 for five in 19 overs. Then Jonker treated the bowling attack with disdain and slammed a superb 64 off 39 balls with four fours.
The Chevrolet Warriors cantered to 130 for two in 12.3 overs to win comfortably by eight wickets.
Jonker and a belligerent Colin Ingram hammered 82 runs off 40 balls for the second wicket to put the Chevrolet Warriors within striking distance of the target as they put the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras to the sword.
Ingram scored 45 off 44 balls, with five fours and two sixes and was in scintillating form.
With this win the Chevrolet Warriors have ensured that they will host the Nashua Titans in the qualifier of the competition.
Jonker and Ingram treated the mediocre Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras bowling attack with disdain. Beuran Hendricks bowled two no-balls early on and Jonker deposited both for sixes, as Hendricks conceded 27 runs in his first two overs.
That set the tone for the rest of the innings as the inexperienced attack suffered terribly. Lizaad Williams conceded 16 runs in his first over and Justin Kemp 17 in his solitary over.
Johann Louw was the one bowler who showed some class, finishing with 1-8 in two overs.
