GEOFFREY TOYANA has been acknowledged for his outstanding success in his first season as coach of the bizhub Highveld Lions by being named coach of the South Africa Emerging Squad to play in a quadrangular T20 tournament in Namibia later this month.
“Geoffrey has done very well in his first season at franchise level,” commented Cricket South Africa (CSA) High Performance Coach Vinnie Barnes, who will manage the Emerging Squad. “It is part of our planning going forward to involve our franchise coaches at the various national levels and we will continue with this when Australia A and India A come to South Africa during the winter for their respective series against South Africa A.
“In selecting the T20 squad we have again rewarded players who have done well in this format at franchise level but, as most of these are youngsters, we have also included some more experienced players to create the right balance.”
The squad will be captained by Jean Symes of the bizhub Highveld Lions who has emerged as one of the best finishers in franchise limited overs cricket.
The tournament takes place in Namibia from April 19 to 24 with the other competing countries being Namibia, Kenya and the Netherlands.
