An unbeaten century by Andries Gous and an unbeaten 71 by Diego Rosier saw the Chevrolet Knights in a good position in their second innings against the bizhub Highveld Lions at stumps of the second day of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Franchise Colts Week in Potchefstroom on Thursday.
The Lions were bowled out for a daunting 345 after Yaseer Cook scored 144 from 170 followed by a half century from Wihan Lubbe (53).
In reply, the Knights were 248/2 at stumps with Gerhard Abrahams adding 45 from 63 balls.
At Witrand, the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras continued their dominating ways when they bowled the Chevrolet Warriors out for 215 and forced them to follow on. Jan Frylinck was the main destroyer, taking five wickets in all on the day followed by Cape Cobras' captain Riyaad Henry and Grant Edmeades who took three wickets each.
At PUK Oval B, Ernest Kemm scored an exceptional 137 from 261 balls to put the Nashua Titans in a winning position after the Sunfoil Dolphins were bowled out for 193 chasing the Titans' 200 all out in the first innings. This was due to a terrific bowling performance by GC Pretorius which saw him return best bowling figures of 4/24 in nine overs.
Craig Letcher provided a vital 51 from just 58 balls, while Pretorius chipped in with 44 runs to put their side in a leading position with 335/5 after 88 overs at stumps.
Day three will see the end of the matches, followed by a rest day on Saturday where coaches will sit with the regional scouts to discuss what areas their players must work on before the second round of matches beginning on Sunday, 14 April 2013.
