Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday announced that Chevrolet Knights Colts captain, Diego Rosier will lead the Franchise Colts XI in the Future Cup tournament to be held in Kimberley from 18 to 21 April 2013. The announcement was made at the closing function of the CSA Franchise Colts Week which was held in Potchefstroom.
The Future Cup is a T20 triangular tournament where the Colts will face the SA Rural XI and the SA USSA (University) XI in double header matches that will take place each day.
"It's been a really tough seven days at Colts Week and I'm really honoured that the selectors have shown such faith in me and are trusting me with the leadership role," Rosier said.
The best 13 players from Colts Week were selected to take part in the Future Cup and Wendell Bossenger, who will share the coaching duties of the team with former Chevrolet Knights bowler, Victor Mpitsang, is happy with the choices that were made.
"It's been a really long week for the boys, but I believe that the scouts and I have picked the best possible players for the Future Cup," he said.
"While Colts Week is all about the longer format of the game, the Future Cup will test the players in the shorter, T20 format and that promises to give us all a lot of exciting cricket to watch."
The Future Cup will see majority of the matches played under lights, which will be a first for some of the players from the Colts squad.
"This tournament (Future Cup) is the perfect assessment ground for a lot of the guys who have not played under lights before and it will show us all how much further we still have to go in order to crack that semi-pro(fessional) and professional sphere in our careers. I'm really looking forward to the shift in gear from Colts Week, which was a test on its own. We have some big hitters in our squad, and it's going to be exciting to get this new tournament started," Rosier concluded.
