Esmund van Wyk (52*)and Dale Campbell (17) shared a 50 partnership to lead the SA USSA XI to an emphatic six-wicket victory over the Franchise Colts XI in the second match of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Future Cup in Kimberley on Thursday. This comes off USSA's 24-run victory over the SA Rural XI earlier in the day.
The Colts won the toss and chose to bat first, posting 111/4 in their 20 overs. Grant Esmeades was the leading run scorer with 63 off 58 balls and shared a vital 50 partnership with captain Diego Rosier. A slow run rate was their ultimate downfall, something they will look to correct after a week of playing three-day cricket in the CSA Franchise Colts Week.
USSA had a shaky start to their batting reply when they lost Edward Moore (lbw) off the first ball of their innings thanks to some nifty bowling by Firisco Adams. He struck again at the end of the third over when Michael Pote sent the ball straight into the hands of Zakir Kathrada for five. Uwe Birkenstock was dismissed three balls later by Thandolwethu Mnyaka. USSA were 70/4 when van Wyk and Campbell revived the innings before the latter was caught and bowled by Sumanth Sunkari. Heinrich Klaasen added 22 more runs to the scorecard to help them to victory.
The Colts will play a double header tomorrow, starting with the SA Rural XI at 13:00, followed by USSA at 18:00 at the Diamond Oval.
