MOMENTUM achieved a notable hat trick in their first year as a major sponsor of Cricket South Africa (CSA) when they announced a prize money pool of R80 000 for the Momentum National Club Championships.

The Championships, which brings together the champion clubs of CSA’s 12 affiliates, will be hosted by the Northerns Cricket Union from Monday, 22 April, to Saturday, 27 April 2013. The Final will be held at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Saturday, 27 April 2013.

It is Momentum’s first year as a sponsor of CSA and it is also an additional double first that for the first time the National Club Championships has a sponsor both for the tournament and for team and individual prize money.

The winning club will receive R50 000 with R20 000 going to the runners-up.

There will also be the following individual awards:

Player of the Tournament – Weekend getaway anywhere in SA for two including flights, accommodation and car hire

Best Batsman – R5 000

Best Bowler – R 5 000

“This is another huge boost for cricket development at grassroots level,” commented CSA Acting CEO Naasei Appiah. “We are most appreciative of the support our major sponsors such as Momentum are giving to our various development pipelines.

“Club cricket is a very important recreational platform that crosses diverse cultural boundaries and becomes central to the community it serves. It has possibly not received the support it deserves in the past and we are most grateful to Momentum for what they are doing.”

Danie van den Bergh, Head of Brand at Momentum, commented: “Being part of the South African cricket family has given us the chance to contribute to the unity of our nation, to the development of cricket talent at all levels and to foster fun for family and friends. We are happy to show our commitment to the spirit embodied in the national club championships, to the development of cricket and the development of talent at grass roots level.”

The matches will be played in various venues around Pretoria and entrance is free to the matches.
