Zakir Kathrada scored an outstanding 61* from 19 balls to give the Franchise Colts a nine-wicket victory over the SA Rural XI in the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Future Cup in Kimberley on Saturday. The Rural side failed to produce a win this year, while this is the Colts' third consecutive victory in their four matches in the tournament so far.
The Rural side were skittled out 78 after winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Sean Jamison took two wickets for nine, while Dwaine Calder took two for 17. Firisco Adams deserves a special mention for a superb performance. He took one wicket for none in 2.3 overs, his spell including two maiden overs.
In reply, the Rurals made a positive start when Tashwin Lukas bowled Ernest Kemm without scoring off the fourth ball of the innings. It was impossible to get a wicket after that however, as Kathrada took charge of the chase and shared a 83-run partnership with Grant Edmeades (14*) to win the match.
Colts captain, Diego Rosier is happy with his side's performances this week but remains mindful of the fact that the job is not yet complete.
"It's been a really good week for my team and I," he said. "We've all, at one point or another, contributed to our wins and that makes me happy as a captain. We won't be celebrating though until we've won the final tomorrow (Sunday)."
The Colts will meet the SA USSA XI in the final at the Diamond Oval on Sunday. Play begins at 10am.
