NASHUA TITANS all-rounder David Wiese produced a superb all-round performance to spearhead the SA Emerging Squad to a 22-runs victory over the Netherlands in their final league match at the T20 Quadrangular tournament in Windhoek on Tuesday.
The SA squad has won two out of their three matches and the line-up for tomorrow’s final will depend on the outcome of this afternoon’s match between Kenya, who also have two wins, and hosts Namibia, who have won once.
Wiese again produced some explosive innings at the back end after the South Africans had lost the toss. His unbeaten innings of 40 came off just 14 balls with two fours and four sixes. It means that he has made just over 100 runs off 40 balls in his last two innings.
The other major contributor to the South African total of 206/5 was Cameron Delport (52 off 28 balls, 5 fours and 3 sixes).
The Netherlands were at one stage well on course to challenge for victory as they set off at a rate of 10 to the over thanks largely to the efforts of Tom Cooper who contributed 74 off 41 balls with six fours and four sixes.
The turning point came when five wickets, including Cooper, fell for 13 runs to reduce the Netherlands from 131/2 to 144/7.
Andrew Birch, who has consistently been the best South African bowler, took 2/37, including the wicket of Cooper, while Wiese finished with the excellent return of 2/18, also from four overs.
