Assupol Tuks are the only unbeaten side in the 2013 instalment of the Momentum National Club Championships after defeating the Cellect Cellular Western Province Cricket Club (WPCC) by 102 runs on the final day of round robin matches on Friday. This means that Tuks will meet the Mecer Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) Madibaz in the final at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Saturday.

Tuks posted 270/3 in their 50 overs after they were put in to bat first by WPCC. It was a 70s show with Ernest Kemm, Graeme van Buuren and Francois le Clus scoring 79, 78 and 70 respectively.

Van Buuren returned to produce the best bowling performance, taking three wickets for 29 while Tumi Masekela and Michael Faasen backed him up well, taking two wickets each. Scott Fraser was the leading run scorer for WPCC with 54.

In Groenkloof, Kovsies CC finished their Club Champs on high when they pulled off a 30-run defeat over an uninspired NMMU side. The Free State men began their campaign with a well played 225/8 after winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Adries Gous was the main contributor with 46 runs.

In their reply, NMMU could not contend with a fired up Vasili Oros who took an incredible five wickets for 25. Edward Moore and Josh Dolley made 66 and 47 respectively before they were dismissed. NMMU were bowled out for 197 to lose their first match in the tournament so far.

Benoni Northerns CC  bounced back from a demoralising run of back to back losses to beat Good Hope CC by a monstrous 137 runs, the largest margin in the tournament so far.

JP Kok scored an outstanding 134 after Benoni were asked to bat first. They set a daunting 293/6 at the end of their innings.

It was always going to be a difficult chase for the men from Border, but GC Pretorius and Grant Thomson did not give the batsmen any room for movement. Vuyisa Makhapela (40) and Luxolo Tsewu (30) tried to add runs to the board but were thwarted by a rejuvenated bowling side that was just too good on the day. Pretorius took a brilliant four for 17 and Thomson a significant 3/18.

The Steinhoff Maties beat the HollywoodBets.Net Crusaders by six wickets despite Jared van Heerden's 100 at Sinovich Park. The Crusaders made 214/5 in their allotted overs after choosing to bat first.

The in-form Uwe Birkenstock was once again the leading run scorer in the Maties reply, with 74 not out and, along with Mark van Heerden (49) and Dewald Botha (42*) lead their side to victory.

In the last two matches, St Patrick's CC suffered their biggest loss yet when they faced ABSA NWU-PUKKE. They were bowled out for 100 in the 29th over, thanks to CJ Ferreira's 5/41. In reply, Wimpie Viljoen and Rassie van der Dussen were unbeaten for 52 and 45 to win the match by 10 wickets.

Van der Dussen was awarded the Player of the Tournament as well as the Best Batsman awards for his total runs of 373 at an average of 124.33 at the closing function and prize giving later in the evening.

At the Laudium Oval, the Union Stars CC suffered a 130-run drubbing by the Gunn & Moore Old Edwardians (Old Eds).

Old Eds won the toss and chose to bat first, posting a competitive 269/7. Devon Conway and Malcolm Nofal scored an impressive 85 and 81* respectively, with Blake Snijman adding 41 more runs to cement their total.

The aggressive bowling attack lead by Yaseen Valli (4/39) saw Union Stars bowled for 139.  The ever dependable Etienne Gerber took three for 29 to thoroughly deserve the Best Bowler award at the prize giving.

Old Eds won by a whopping 130 runs.

The Best Batsman and Best Bower both received a full kit sponsored by Sedgars Sport along with a cheque for R5000. Van der Dussen also received a two night stay at his chosen local Tsogo Sun hotel and car hire by Tempest Car Hire to round off his Player of the Tournament award.

The final will be the culmination of an exciting week of extraordinary cricket. Play begins at 9:45am.
