This weekend, the country’s top KFC Mini-Cricket co-ordinators, coaches and administrators will converge on Polokwane for the 15th annual KFC Mini-Cricket national seminar hosted by Cricket South Africa (CSA) and KFC. This year, the 150-strong delegation will meet at the Protea Hotel Ranch for three days of reflection and planning for the season ahead.

In celebration of the 31st anniversary of the mini-cricket programme, this year’s theme is “going back to basics”.

The partnership between CSA and KFC is now in its third year and it has managed to produce extraordinary results.  The programme has grown by more than 5% across the board in the 2012/2013 season, increasing children participating to more than 105 000, coaches to 7 900 and schools to just under 5 000. At this year’s seminar, the focus will be on further growth and sustainability in the rural areas and those areas that were previously disadvantaged.

CSA’s Youth Cricket Officer, David Mokopanele, said: “It’s a very exciting time for us, this is the most anticipated event in the mini-cricket calendar. We have the most amazing group of coaches who find a way to stay positive and upbeat for their teams every single day. This seminar is our way of thanking them for their continued dedication and support for the world’s most highly regarded mini-cricket programme.”

Areas to be discussed will include upcoming KFC mini-cricket regional seminars, ways to improve and get maximum results from regional festivals as well as how mini-cricket co-ordinators can further improve and boost their own work within the different regions.

“We are eager to get started with this crucial programme on yet another big year with our sponsor. The last couple of years have flown by and we have accomplished even more than we had originally projected. We look forward to going into the new season with the same enthusiasm and hard work everyone has shown in the past,” Mokopanele concluded.
