Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Wednesday announced the busiest schedule yet on the women’s cricket calendar, including two home international series for the Momentum Proteas women.

The national team will host Bangladesh in a three-match ODI and T20 series from 12 to 24 September 2013. The T20 series will take place in Potchefstroom, with Johannesburg, Benoni and Pretoria set to host the ODI series.

South Africa will then take on Sri Lanka from 18 October to the 4th of November in another three-match ODI and T20 series. All matches will take place in Potchefstroom.

CSA Senior Cricket manager, Max Jordaan, is pleased to see the national team playing a lot more cricket than before, especially with the ICC Women’s World T20 taking place in Bangladesh in a few months.  “This year will be very special for our team,” he said. “For them to play two fully fledged national teams so close to the World T20 is great preparation for us.”

The South Africa women’s emerging squad will also be in action this summer. They will host the England women’s under-19 team from 11 to 19 October in Potchefstroom. This is the team’s first series on home soil. They have had more playing opportunities this past season than in recent years, having completed a tour to Zimbabwe and Tanzania. They will also play two 50-over warm up matches against Sri Lanka to cap off their preparation for the England tour.

Jordaan believes it is important for the players to get as much international cricket exposure as possible if CSA is to groom a new crop of competitive international players.

The fixtures for the CSA Women’s Provincial League have also been released. Western Province will defend their title against the country’s top provincial sides.

“We’re looking forward to it”, captain, Alexis le Breton said. “Our preparation is on track and we want to defend our title successfully.”

The league starts with Easterns taking on North West and Mpumalanga going up against Gauteng on 28 September.
