A considerable task awaits the Coca-Cola South Africa under-19s as they prepare to face Australia in their second clash of the youth quadrangular series on Sunday. Both teams need to win the match in order to take on the hosts in the final next week Saturday in Visakhapatnam, India.

The locals have qualified for the final by virtue of remaining unbeaten in the tournament so far and have a five-point lead on the points table, with a net run rate of 1.79. India sit on 14 points, with South Africa (NRR 1.11) in second place on nine, Australia (NRR 0.86) on five and Zimbabwe (NRR -3.66) bringing up the rear with no points so far.

South Africa captain, Yaseen Valli, is looking forward to taking on their old enemy with the advantage of having come out victorious in their first meet.

“It’s always good getting a win against them (Australia) early on in any tournament,” he said. “We’re looking forward to the match tomorrow because, although Australia have already played on that ground and we haven’t, we’ll all be playing on a new pitch so it evens out our chances.

“We know they’ll be coming hard at us after losing the first round, but we know we have what it takes to make it two out of two. The mood in the team is really positive and we’re all looking forward to going out there and beating them twice in a row.”

The match, taking place at the Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium, will start at 9am on a ground that has hosted high scoring matches in the tournament so far. India scored 321/5 to beat Australia by 18 runs (via D/L method) in a rain interrupted match on Friday. Before that, Australia made 329/3 to beat Zimbabwe by 147 runs.

Valli is looking forward to some special performances from his batsmen.

He said; “Judging by previous scores, it looks like we’re in for a high scoring match. I’m backing my batsmen to do the business for us on the day. We’ve been working hard on the mental and technical side of our performances and we’re ready to put all that preparation to practice.”

Regular updates on the match will be posted on Cricket South Africa’s Facebook (www.facebook.com/cricketsouthafrica) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/officialcsa) platforms.
