Kotze century keeps NMMU George on top

NMMU George, Vaal University of Technology, University of Fort Hare B and University of Zululand all advanced to Thursday’s semi-finals of the Universities Sports South Africa (USSA) B Week after finishing in the top four positions on the Section C table on Wednesday.


NMMU George were the only team to remain unbeaten throughout after they beat Durban University of Technology (DUT) by seven wickets on Wednesday, putting them top of the section with 15 points from three matches.


H Kotze scored the first hundred of the week as he blazed 168* in that match, helping NMMU George chase down a target of 258 in just 27.5 overs.


Although Vaal University of Technology lost to University of Zululand by 18 runs on Wednesday, they finished second on the table thanks to a superior net run rate over University of Fort Hare B, who also ended the round robin phase with 10 points.


Despite being bowled out for 108 by North West University (Mafikeng), University of Fort Hare B defended the total as they dismissed their opponents for just 63.


University of Zululand’s win saw them claim fourth position as North West University (Mafikeng) and Durban University of Technology went away without any points from the week.


In section D, University of Limpopo (Turfloop) registered their third win out of three as they beat University of Venda by 55 runs.


University of Venda was second in Section D, ahead of University of Limpopo (Medunsa), who beat Mangosuthu University by eight wickets.
