Mamello Mochangoane and Jessica Matthyssen took 5/25 and 4/11 respectively to bowl North West (NW) to an outstanding, innings and 118-run victory over South Western Districts (SWD) in the time cricket segment of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Girls Under-19 Week in Cape Town on Thursday.

In the first innings, SWD were bundled out for 36 in 19.4 overs when they were asked to bat first. Matthyssen took her four wickets with Mochangoane taking three for eight. NW decalared on 220/9 in their reply. Dineke Meyer led the run scoring with 63, while Esmaralda Olivier and Piren Myburg added 42 and 37 respectively.

SWD could only do slightly better in their second innings, this time posting 66 runs before they were skittled out in 19.1 overs (Mochangoane 2/17) to give North West a well-deserved win.

At Florida Park, Griqualand West (Griquas) suffered a 100-run loss to Mpumalanga. The latter did not have a good start to their match, getting bowled out for just 55 runs in 28 overs thanks to Amogelang Mohale who took four wickets for 20. Griquas did no better, as they managed 47 runs before Shania-Lee and Anke van Wyk took 4/17 and 3/6 to dismiss them.

Mpumalanga bounced back well in their second innings. Alicia Giles scored 41 to enable them to post 103 before they were bowled out. They did well to restrict Griquas to a meagre 10 runs in their reply for an impressive win.

In other matches; Limpopo beat KwaZulu-Natal Inland by seven runs when they met at Edgemead Cricket Club, while the matches between Free State and Kei, Easterns and Eastern Province, Gauteng and Boland as well as Western Province and Northerns all ended in draws.

Day Three sees the format change to Twenty20 cricket where each team will play a double-header.
