Lara Goodall played two unbeaten innings to help Western Province secure back-to-back wins on Day Three of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Girls Under-19 Week in Cape Town. She scored 45 and 58 against Gauteng and Griqualand West (Griquas) respectively as the format of the tournament changed to Twenty20s (T20).

WP beat Gauteng by 17 runs in the first match after posting 94/4 when they elected to bat first. The visitors could only manage 77/6 with Nonopha Ludidi unbeaten for 33.

They beat Griquas by 99 runs in the afternoon matches, thanks also to Laura Wolvaart who joined Goodall in scoring her own 50 not out after choosing to bat once again. WP made 136 for no loss. The Griquas reply could not match up to their hosts bowling attack, Tala Ross and Suriya Naidoo took three wickets each to bundle them out for 37.

Northerns were one of the other unbeaten sides of the day, defeating North West and KwaZulu-Natal Inland by three wickets and 108 runs respectively. Nicole Barnard and Nadine De Klerk took four wickets for seven and three wickets for five respectively to remove NW for 50 in 15.3 overs.

They did not go down easily however, the bowlers made a huge effort to defend their meagre score. Esmaralda Olivier once again made a notable contribution, taking three wickets for nine, while Charlotte Mabila took 3/12. Northerns were too good on the day, they held their nerve and took the game in 15.2 overs.

In their match against KZN Inland, Northerns won the toss and batted first, posting 148/5, the highest total of the day. Suné Luus and Lauren Agenbag scored 53 and 39 runs respectively. KZN Inland were skittled out for 40. Nadine De Klerk and Lebogang Nkadimeng took three wickets each while Mpho Semango took 2/2 to take the win.

Other teams that won back-to-back matches include Boland, who beat Border and South Western Districts by 42 runs and eight wickets respectively, Eastern Province, who won their matches against KZN Coastal and Kei by 43 runs and nine wickets respectively, and Mpumalanga, who pulled off five-wicket victories over KZN Inland and North West.

In other matches; Limpopo  beat Griquas by 70, but suffered a seven-wicket loss to Gauteng when they met for the afternoon games. Free State beat SWD by 66 runs but lost to Border by 25 and Kei suffered another blow when they lost to Easterns by a convincing 60 runs.

The T20 matches will continue on Day Four, with 50 over matches reserved for the final day of the week.
