WAYNE PARNELL’S three-wicket burst on the third evening put the Chevrolet Warriors on track for a much-needed Sunfoil Series victory over The Unlimited Titans at Axxess St George’s.
Parnell removed Heino Kuhn and Jacques Rudolph with successive deliveries and then trapped Henry Davids lbw as the Titans endured a horror start to their attempt to save the match.
The visitors went to stumps on Saturday on 84 for four after being set a target of 440 by the Warriors.
A fairly frenetic day saw Albie Morkel begin and end the day at the crease. The Titans resumed their first innings on 180 for six, but Morkel was out in the sixth over of the day and it took a fighting knock of 64 not out from Roelof van der Merwe to extend the score to 246 all out.
That gave the Warriors a first-innings lead of 256, and although they were pegged back early on by Rowan Richards, Jon-Jon Smuts (52) and Ashwell Prince (62) hit their second fifties of the match and scored at a good rate.
The hosts were, therefore, able to declare their second innings on 183 for seven shortly after tea and leave their opposition with a formidable task - even against an injury-depleted Warriors attack.
Parnell duly knocked off the top of the Titans line-up before Simon Harmer bowled David Wiese, keeping the Warriors on course for their first win of the season.
