CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) today congratulated the Castle Lager Proteas on their 1-0 victory over India in the Sunfoil Test Series and on extending their lead at the top of the ICC World Test Championship standings.
“This has been as near to perfect a Test match as anybody could have asked to see,” commented CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat. “The Proteas have given Jacques Kallis exactly the farewell send-off that the entire nation wanted and Jacques, of course, was right on top of his game with yet another memorable century, not to mention his 200th catch and his achievement of becoming the third leading Test runs scorer of all time.
“Above all, the Proteas have beaten their closest rivals on the ICC World rankings to consolidate their position as the world's top Test team and this is an important result as we work towards the World Test Championship.
“We have also been able to celebrate Dale Steyn becoming the second fastest player of all time to take 350 Test match wickets and AB de Villiers setting an SA record for the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in a two-Test series.
“Even the Durban weather played its part and we saw five days of competitive and enthralling Test match cricket.
“It has been an excellent Sunfoil Test Series if one reflects both on this match and all the drama that surrounded the final day of the previous match at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium. I would like to congratulate both teams for playing it hard but fair and living up to the best traditions of the spirit of cricket.
“Test cricket remains exciting and in a healthy state.”
