CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) today announced the outcomes of a Disciplinary Hearing following incidents that transpired in the CSA Provincial One-Day competition match at Sahara Park Willowmoore on 12 January 2014 between Easterns and North West, involving one player from each side.

Dale Deeb of North West was charged under clause 6.4.1 (b) - Level 3 of the CSA Code of Conduct: threat of assault on another participant or spectator.

GC Pretorius of Easterns was charged under clauses 6.2.1 (d) – Level 1, 6.3.1 (c) – Level 2 and 6.4.1 (b) – Level 3 of the CSA Code of Conduct. These clauses respectively refer to: Using language that is obscene, offensive or insulting and/or the making of an obscene gesture; inappropriate and deliberate physical contact between players in the course of play; and threat of assault on another participant or spectator.

Both players pleaded guilty and the evidence of the match report is not in issue and the complaint is, therefore, established.

CSA Disciplinary Commissioner, Professor Rian Cloete, handed down the following orders after careful consideration:

“In the case of Mr. Deeb a two-match suspension in the CSA Provincial T20 Challenge is hereby ordered. Mr Deeb is ineligible for selection for the forthcoming matches against Namibia (23 March) and Northerns (30 March). A further two-match suspension in the Provincial One Day or T20 Challenge is hereby ordered, the operation of which is suspended for one calendar year.

“In the case of Mr. Pretorius a three-match suspension in the CSA Provincial T20 Challenge is hereby ordered. Mr Pretorius is ineligible for selection for the forthcoming matches against Namibia (2 March), Gauteng (16 March) and Free State (30 March). A further one-match suspension in the CSA Provincial One Day or T20 Challenge is hereby ordered, the operation of which is suspended for one calendar year.”
