coach, Russell Domingo, has outlined his plans and thinking ahead of the KFC T20
International series against Australia starting at Axxess St George's on
Sunday. Domingo says the series is an important fine-tuner ahead of
the ICC World Twenty20 starting in Bangladesh in nine days.
"The World Cup is the big
priority going forward, but everyone will be looking at these next three
matches to finalise combinations and strategies ahead of the World
Cup," Domingo said from the squad's
team-building camp in the Eastern Cape on Friday. "Taking
momentum into an event like this is important and also making sure
our strategies and tactics are finalised by the time we get there."
The Proteas are ranked third on the
ICC T20 rankings, and a series win will see them leap-frog second-placed India,
who are ahead by a fraction of a point.
"We have won nine out of our
last 12 T20 matches in the last year," Domingo said. "I’m happy with
the progress we have made. We have moved up to number two or three in the world
in this format so the team has gone in the right direction. We have given it a
