CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) today congratulated one of its senior umpires, Johan Cloete, on the occasion of his 100th first-class appointment when he took the field for the Sunfoil Series match between the Sunfoil Dolphins and the bizhub Highveld Lions at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead.

“This is a significant personal achievement,” commented CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat, “and underlines the excellence and endurance he has brought to the job since he made his first-class debut more than 20 years ago.”

Johan Cloete made his umpiring debut on October 7, 1993 when he stood in the three-day match between Western Transvaal and Griquas at Potchefstroom. He has also been appointed to the ICC International Panel of Umpires and has stood in 37 One-Day International matches and 11 T20 International matches. He has also been privileged to be the TV official in one Test match.

“It is indicative of the standing in which he is held that his most recent international appointment was for the Asia Cup earlier this month.

“CSA congratulates Johan on his fantastic achievement and being only 42 years of age we are confident that he has many good years ahead to serve his profession,” concluded Mr Lorgat.
